Technology has altered the media landscape, and the news business itself is changing faster than it ever has before. Here in Nashville, the main newspaper and source for local news, The Tennessean, has slashed its newsroom by more than 60 percent in the last 20 years. Other towns across the country have done away with newspapers all together.

As we head into a presidential election year, American voters must grapple with important questions about media: How do you get your news? How do you know that what you read, see and hear is true? Does the decline of newspapers affect fair and accurate reporting? What does a future without newspapers look like?

In an age where misinformation from unreliable sources threatens American democracy and has become one of the most effective weapons in digital warfare, Scott Stroud will take us behind the headlines and talk about his experience at The Tennessean and other newspapers over a 30-year period and his current role as news editor for The Associated Press for Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia.
