With the introduction of the digital age, along with continued advances in technology, opportunities to create new forms of copyrighted materials have been created. Such developments have produced new issues that were unimagined a few years ago. Many, including authors, owners, courts and Congress, are working to understand and, hopefully, protect these new works of authorship.
In this convocation event, we will examine ten interesting developments in copyright law, such as protection for certain fashion items; white-hat hacking; live streaming apps and computer programs; news scraping; book scanning; entertainment issues (for example, sampling, looping, and cyberspace issues); and solutions to discourage piracy.
