Dr. Hawley’s latest programming project is a free iOS app called “Knobility” to help audio students with session documention. A short demo video is perhaps at least as instructive as the following paragraph, so see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80RcYVdQx00. It is a ‘crafting’ app whereby users can build and share graphical user interfaces for anything involving knobs (sliders are coming, but not yet) using photos of gear obtained via the web or the device camera. Interactive knobs can then be added to the gear photos, and calibrated and modified, and full reports of all settings can be exported. Additional annotations in the form of hand drawings and typed notes (including pre-existing Grammy metadata templates) are also supported. The hope is that students could build & share “Knobility” files for all Belmont facilities. For more information including user forums and some source code, see the web page: http://www.scotthawley.com/knobility/. As of September 21, the app is available for beta release via Apple’s Testflight; by the time of this talk, Hawley expects the app to be fully available on the App Store.
