This interdisciplinary program offers a possible fifteen (15) credit hours through five (5) course options onsite. There are two courses offered in Economic, Cultural and Social Aspects of Jamaica; one exposes all student majors to some of the pertinent issues confronting the Jamaican economy while the other is designed for students wanting to major/minor in Economics, International Business or General Business. Digital Citizenship in Jamaica provides as experiential learning experience focusing on how the Internet works and is leveraged in Jamaica while Entrepreneurial Media in Jamaica gives students the opportunity to explore and comparatively analyze the Jamaican and American startup and business cultures.  In Research for Novels: Concept to Creation, students learn to develop empathy and cultural curiosity and engage with a culture, place, and history previously unfamiliar to them while practicing creative writing and interview skills. The program includes a blend of faculty-led lectures and presentations by academics and prominent practitioners in the public and private sectors. Students experience firsthand how policies impact the economic, social, entertainment and cultural dimensions in a country of paradoxes.

This Belmont Abroad trip exposes students to the rich culture and unique history of Jamaica and its economy, while simultaneously fostering an appreciation for the island’s entertainment, food, music and culture. In the capital of Kingston, students will visit major players in the financial, manufacturing, entertainment, tourism and social media sectors. These include the Bank of Jamaica, Usain Bolt Track and Records, Devon House, Blue Mountain, Bob Marley Museum, Dunn’s River Falls and Grace Kennedy Foods. Students will spend several days in the north coast of the island – Montego Bay and Negril – relishing the exotic landscape, serene beaches, lush vegetation and “Jamaican Island Nights” at an exquisite resort.
