Join Women in Film on April 20 at 6 pm for a screening of Facing the Laughter: Minnie Pearl, followed by Q&A with the film’s director Barbara Hall and NPT President and CEO Becky Magura, moderated by Dr. Amy Bertram from the Motion Pictures program in Curb College. Recently screened in Franklin and here on campus at the Fisher Center in January, this touching documentary based on Belmont’s own alum, Sarah Cannon, premiered on NPT (Nashville Public Television) on March 22.
With over twenty-five years of experience in media production and filmmaking, Hall gives us a powerful overview of this trailblazing country comedian, more recognizably known by her alter ego, Minnie Pearl. Sarah Cannon downplayed her intelligence to tell the truth to Country Music fans in a hilarious, tongue-in-cheek manner via this beloved country bumpkin. Independently produced, this documentary is a celebration of the power of support by and distribution with public media and the influence of local celebrities.
This event is an end-of-semester WELL CORE event you won’t want to miss!
