In this talk I will discuss my recent experiences of creating an audio software plug-in, ranging from the initial need and concept, to the final development and commercialization of the tool, all taking place within an academic environment. I will also briefly describe a new procedure at Ohio State University to market and sell products by faculty and students via an in-house “virtual company” vehicle rather than pushing out the technology via a full-fledged startup company. I will present various aspects of this pipeline and my resulting experiences.
