Audio signals can be synthesized, recorded, and processed using analog and digital technologies. These technologies are similar, but are not identical and produce different results. Audio engineers must choose whether to use analog or digital signal processing. One factor for determining the optimum choice is whether listeners prefer audio that has been processed by analog or digital technologies. The results from a listening experiment conducted at Belmont University will be presented indicating that listeners prefer different types of signal processing for different genres of music.
