Entertainment Entrepreneurship: Michael Blanton

MICHAEL BLANTON
President, BE Music & Entertainment

Hosted by Dr. Jeff Cornwall

Got His Start: As an A&R rep at Word Records in 1977. Soon after he was hired he had the opportunity to open Word’s Nashville office, where one of his first tasks was developing a young, new artist named Amy Grant. Ever since then, Michael has been a fixture in the music industry, working on the production and management of artists such as Michael W. Smith, Wayne Kirkpatrick, Billy Sprague, Rich Mullins, Kathy Trocolli, Wes King, Ashley Cleveland, and many others.

What Others Say: Michael is a dreamer who combines a natural ability to pour into others’ lives with an incredible sense and passion for their art. He is a veteran of the industry who is able to find the diamond in the rough and polish it to perfection by recognizing the artist’s identity and bringing together the elements needed to elevate him or her.

Backdrop: Michael has previously served and currently serves on several boards, including those for the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC), Nashville Institute of the Arts, Brentwood Academy, and the Nashville Adventure Science Center (formerly known as Cumberland Science Center). He is a member of the National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences, the Gospel Music Association, and the Country Music Association. He graduated from Abilene Christian University in 1974 with a degree in Mass Communications.
